Entry Criteria:

English Proficiency:

• To ensure the greatest opportunity for successful participation in our programmes, learners are required to have a good command of English in terms of reading, writing and speaking. This standard of proficiency is indicated by achieving or exceeding the standard of CEFR B2+Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or standard of 6.0 on the IELTS.
• Learners who have achieved a passing grade at Junior Certificate level will be deemed to meet this criterion. However, learners for whom English is not their first language, are required to advise Carraig Safety Consultants, and may be required to provide evidence of proficiency. This could include completing a standardised CEFR test or equivalent.

IT skills & Resources:

Learners should have basic IT Skills. They will need to be able email, word process (Word) and use Presentation software (Powerpoint) and Zoom.

• Learners must have good broadband access and their own laptop/ tablet with microphone and speakers and a working camera.
• The course should be completed in a quite location. This can be tested prior to the course commencement.

General:

• There is currently no specific requirement for participants to have completed a previous programme of training at a similar or lower level on the NFQ.
• Participants will require a reasonable level of physical fitness so that practical elements of the programme, including assessment elements, can be undertaken successfully.

Assessment:

Participants are required to complete an assignment, examination and make skills demonstration as indicated below. All assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI regulations and are internally verified and externally authenticated before certification is issued.

All participants have the right to appeal their result and all appeals will be dealt with in accordance with our appeals procedure.

All participants who successfully complete the written examinations and practical assignments will be awarded with a QQI level 6 Special Purpose Manual Handling Instruction certificate and the appropriate credits under the national framework of qualifications will then be obtained by the learner.

Participants will be given clear guidelines on how the assignment should be completed. The skills demonstration element will be completed and assessed during the course.

Summary of Assessments:

Grading is as follows -

• Pass 50-64%

• Merit 65-79%

• Distinction 80-100%

• Skills Demonstration 60%
• Examination (Theory Based) 20%
• Assignment 20% (to be completed in learners’ own time)

Certification:

Successful participants will receive a QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instruction Certificate.

What course resources do I receive upon completion

On completion of the course all participants will receive all the training materials they will require to start training others. PowerPoint Presentation, Guides, Videos, Sample Certification, Assessment & Administration Documentation, Useful Links. Ongoing support will be provided to learners after course completion.

Do I need to have a valid manual handling certificate to do the course and become a manual handling instructor?

No, we start with the basics so no previous training is required

Can I train my own staff after this course?

Yes, once you satisfy all the requirement of the course, you can train and certify your team.

Can I become a free lance trainer or set up a training business and deliver Manual Handling Training.

Yes, you will be fully qualified to teach, assess and certify other in Manual Handling. This is often the first course that those seeking to become trainers complete.

What do I need to bring?

We supply all course materials, manuals, packs and refreshments, however on day 5 the learner should bring their laptop to present their micro teach and a load to conduct their demonstration.

You will receive a QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor Certificate.
